Irritating Your Neck
If you’ve ever wondered if your cerebral blood flow, or the amount of cerebrospinal fluid your brain or spine receives, can be altered, the answer is yes. That changed in the flow of those fluids is important because the protect the brain and spine from injury.
So, what happens when they don’t flow properly is an irritation that manifests itself as a migraine. That irritation can occur because of one of many injuries, and we’ll talk about each of those injuries that can cause a misalignment that can lead to a change in those fluids in this blog.
Auto Accidents and Migraines
No one is quite sure just what causes migraines, but there is plenty of evidence that there may be more than one cause. If you recently began to suffer from migraines, and you can think back to an accident in which you suffered a head or neck injury, that neurological disorder may be the result of a misalignment in your upper cervical spine.
Even if you haven’t recently started experiencing migraines, but you did recently sustain a head or neck injury, such as whiplash, it is important that you seek out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor. Those migraines may not appear for weeks, months, or even years after your injury. It’s easy to think that you’re not in any danger of migraines developing, but whiplash can occur in a rear end collision of only Five MPH.

Migraines and Your Birth
Though, perhaps you’ve suffered from migraines for your entire life. It could be the unfortunate reality that your migraines began because of a head or neck injury you sustained during the birthing process. This could have happened if you were delivered by C-section, if the doctor used forceps, or your neck was injured at all.
Just think that if it only takes a rear end collision of five MPH to possibly cause whiplash, then the possibility of a baby’s neck being at risk of this neck injury during a stressful birth is pretty high. The problem is that sometimes the fragility of the unborn child’s neck is not taken into consideration, thus a head or neck injury sustained during the birthing process can cause migraines later on in life.
The Upper Cervical Connection
Regardless of the cause of your migraines, a misalignment of your upper cervical spine causes an irritation to your nervous system. You may not develop migraines or headaches right away, and you may never develop this neurological disorder, but that doesn’t mean the risk doesn’t exist.
Though, whether you suffer from migraines or not, if you have sustained in accident in the past, in which you suffered from whiplash, or may have even suffered from whiplash, it is important that you seek out the care of an upper cervical chiropractor. They can relieve that pressure on your brain and your spine, thus possibly reducing the risk of you developing or experiencing any more migraines.
