Could It Be Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia, Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue, Always Tired, Tired, Chronic Fatigue SyndromeThis is a very daunting question. If a person is experiencing a large amount of pain throughout the body, they may wonder if it is fibromyalgia (FM). Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is another possibility. Although these conditions are not the same, they are similar, and research has revealed that there may be a connection between them. They both may be due to a misalignment of the upper neck vertebrae that disrupts the proper function of the central nervous system and causes the body to be over-sensitive to pain receptors. So, how can a person know if they may have FM or CFS? Here are some things to look for:

  • These conditions generally affect women between the ages of 20-50 years old. Although they can affect men and women at any age, they are most likely seen in this age range.
  • Pain that has continued for 3 or more months.
  • Pain in particular areas of the body. FM patients must experience pain in 11 of the 18 tender points on the body in order to be diagnosed.

What to Do About Fibromyalgia

If a person suspects that he or she may have fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, the first impulse may be to visit a medical doctor. However, before going that route, one may want to first make an appointment with an upper cervical chiropractor. Why?

We understand the connection between certain health conditions and a misalignment of the upper neck vertebrae. It is possible that the pain a person is feeling is caused by undue pressure being put on the brainstem creating a central nervous system malfunction. The body and brain are not communicating at their optimum. This can lead to symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Before treating the symptoms with medication, we recommend getting to the potential root of the problem by realigning the upper vertebrae. This helps many with their condition.
